How It All Started

I began my personal training career out of Goodlife Point cook in late 2014, prior to this I had my own self-taught training experience for 3 years.

After delving into the Personal Training industry I grew to discover the rewarding feeling I gained from my own progress, and began to think about how I could use what I had learnt, and still had yet to learn, to help improve others and their physical appearance, in turn helping them feel better in their own skin.

What I Find Rewarding

Since starting my career in fitness not only have I helped transform client’s physiques for the better, but I have also improved my own understanding of gaining and losing weight through competing in Natural Physique competitions, taking places in every show.

2015 Victorian State Championship: Beginning of competing journey, how we did it, result on the day.

The 2015 Victorian State Championship was the first competition we decided on.

The decision was made at the beginning of the year shortly after beginning my career as a personal trainer.

I viewed it as a great opportunity to see how my body would react to such a strict diet and training adherence, among learning new techniques on how to gain weight in a stable matter then progress to dropping body fat and trying to maintain as much lean mass as possible.

We began with a bulking phase whilst slowly upping calories and adding more training time.

Results on the day were a body fat percentage of 6-8% at a weight of 69kgs, taking a 3rd and 4th place in two different physique categories and a 3rd in fitness.

No reverse was done.

Sydney National Championships, result of the day, what we learned

After achieving a decent result in the 2015 championships, work began towards 2016 after taking 2 months off from strict dieting, from taking this time off, training and diet adherence was dropped and it was shown once the bulking phase was completed as I had reached a peak weight of 79.95kgs but with excess body fat.

The cutting phase began with more detain being put in to what foods were used and when.

At the state championship, a body weight of 69kgs was hit with 5-6% body fat and I won 2nd place and a third in 2 two physique categories and a 4th in fitness open category.

Work began for the nationals a month after, calories were maintained until peak week and the approach was changed and finished up with 67kgs on the day with 4-5% body fat, but came to realise that taking the flight that morning had an impact on my body making me look like I was carrying more fluid.

No placings were taken at nationals.

2017 Journey to Victorian State Championships, then Nationals results.

From seeing the competition at national a more strict approach was taken in the 2017 off season, with no “time off” and completing a reverse dieting stage and only 4 social events that were seen as a break/cheat on the day, coming into the 2017 season showed more lean gain than the year before.

With more focus on cellular health and frequency on lacking body parts (arms and shoulders), we proceeded to hit a peak weight of 81.6kgs with the cutting phase only beginning.

  • Slowly increasing calories as eating a high amount was a struggle to begin with
  • Focused on strength before moving to frequency
  • Small cuts in between to maintain lean look and keep fat to a minimum, keeping fats high to reduce cellulite.
